Federated Investors appointed Colin Starks senior v.p. and national sales director of its broker/dealer sales division, under Federated Securities Corp. President Tom Territ. Starks replaces veteran Richard Boyd, who will focus on the B/D retail cash management business.

Keith Schappert has resigned as head of Credit Suisse Asset Management reports The Wall Street Journal. The departure "follows troubles with Credit Suisse money-market funds.... During the third quarter, Credit Suisse purchased SIV-issued asset-backed commercial paper, floating-rate notes and notes issued by collateralized-debt-obligation vehicles from the money-market funds," says WSJ.

Stephen Wesselkamper is now the sole manager for Victory Prime Obligations and Victory Inst MMF. Michael Gabriel is no longer a co-PM. Robin Hudson is now the sole manager for Victory Tax-Free MMF.

V.P. and Senior Credit Officer Douglas Rivkin is no longer with Moody's Investors Service.

Steven Duff has been named President and CEO of Reich & Tang Asset Management, a subsisiary of IXIS Asset Management. Michael Lydon has succeeded Duff as President & CEO of Reich & Tang Funds. (These funds don't report to Crane Data, so don't appear in our listings.)

Columbia Management's new "Fixed Income Investments and Liquidity Strategies" will be headed by Stephen Peacher. Money market fund CIO Randy Royther will report to Peacher.

Patti Vitale of Evergreen Investments has been promoted to the position of Sales Director. Evergreen, a unit of Wachovia, is the 16th largest money fund manager with over $50 billion.

High-profile asset-backed commercial paper analyst Victoria Kess is no longer with Western Asset Management.

Financial News Online U.S. reports that Chris Oulton, formerly with Insight Investment, has founded Prime Rate Capital Management, a new money market mutual fund firm based in London.

IMMFA Chairman Donald Aiken left Lloyd's TSB Bank's Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP) and is reportedly moving to Morgan Stanley.

David Burbie has moved from Barclays Global Investors to Morgan Stanley Investment Management. The new Vice President is based out of South Pasadenda, Calif., covering the West Coast.

SEI's Investments' Sean Simko said in today's Wall Steet Journal, "The market, excluding [ABCP] continues to show some strength.... Investors are still gun-shy of [ABCP] because there is concern about what's around the corner."

Zak Green has moved from The Reserve to Legg Mason's Western Asset Management, and Terry Prince is no longer with Wachovia's Evergreen Investments.

The Investment Company Institute (ICI), the trade group representing the mutual fund industry, has elected OppenheimerFunds John Murphy as its new Chairman. Murphy succeeds Invesco's Martin Flanagan.

Karen Dunn Kelley, president of AIM Fund Management Company and director of AIM Global and Cash Management, was named Head of Worldwide Fixed Income for Invesco's combined F-I and cash management teams reports Fund Action.

Barclays is seeking a senior money fund portfolio manager. The job posting says, "Barclays Global Investors is seeking to hire an experienced individual to trade and manage a portfolio of structured and money market products for the securities lending and direct CASH businesses.

Alex Bird has joined Barclays Global Investors (BGI) as a Principal to cover Corporate Cash Sales in the Midwest and West Coast focusing on corporations, state treasurers, and municipalities. Bird, formerly of Goldman Sachs, is based in San Francisco.

Verick Northrup recently joined American Express Credit Corp. as short-term portfolio manager. Northrup reports to President & CEO Christopher Forno.

Louis Lazzara has moved from Fitch Ratings Fund & Asset Manager Rating Group to its Derivative Fitch unit. Viktoria Baklanova has assumed responsibilities for Fitch's Fund Ratings unit.

Brian Gainer has joined Invesco Institutional's Worldwide Fixed Income Group in Louisville as a Senior Product Analyst. Gainer was formerly with Aegon's Cash Markets Group.

Matthew Clay has been promoted to Head of Short-Term Investments at Russell Investments, manager of Russell Money Market Fund. Matt will work closely with Director and Lead Portfolio Manager Mark Amberson, in further expanding Russell's cash managment products and capabilities.

Barclays Global Investors (BGI) has appointed Mark Stockley Head of Global Cash Sales. Robert Fischbach has been promoted to Head of US Cash Sales, and James Finch has been promoted to Head of EAMA Cash Sales. Eric Poon will head Cash Sales in Asia ex-Japan.

Pranay Sammeta is the new Senior Analyst for BBH's (Brown Brothers Harriman & Co.) FCM (Futures Commission Merchant) Banking division and COMSET Plus money fund trading platform. Sammeta was previously with BBH's Investor Services division.

Jared Murphy recently left JPMorgan Asset Management to join Barclays Global Investors as Vice President in the U.S. Financial Institutions Group.

William E. Hoppe Jr. was named Chairman of the ICI Institutional Money Market Funds Committee. Hoppe, AIM Investments Fund Management Company's Senior V.P. and Director of Institutional Marketing, succeeds JPMorgan's Bob Deutsch. The ICI IMMFC was formed to share best practices and to develop a consensus on issues impacting institutional money funds.

American Beacon has hired Mike Purcell as Vice President of Institutional Fixed Income. Purcell was formerly with ABN Amro and will cover the Midwest for American Beacon. He is based out of Chicago.

Roni Pond is a consultant currently completing a sales and marketing project for JPMorgan Chase Liquidity Management. She was formerly with Deutsche Asset Management.

Federated Investors is seeking an East Coast institutional money fund salesperson. E-mail Solon "Bud" Person to apply or for more details. Federated has hired Joe McGinley, based in San Jose, to distribute on the West Coast.

John Carter has left Bear Stearns. It's believed that he will join an online money fund trading portal shortly, but no confirmation is available at this time.

Jeff Egan has started at HSBC Investments. Egan previously worked at the Private Bank of the Bank of Montreal and Harris Bank in short-term and liquidity management. He is located in Chicago and will be distributing HSBC's institutional money market funds.

Kelly Mainelli is leaving Columbia Management to become a Senior Portfolio Manager with Russell Investment Group, based in Tacoma, Washington. Mainelli, who ran tax-exempt money funds at Columbia, will report to Mark Amberson, Director of Short-Term Investments, and will manage money market and enhanced cash portfolios including securities lending cash. Russell's team manages approximately $17 billion in domestic and offshore short-term investments.

HSBC Investments has appointed Richard Bottomley Head of Pan European Liquidity Distribution. Bottomly will report to HSBC Investments Global Head of Liquidity Peter Knight and will "aim to promote HSBC's full range of intelligent investment solutions to organisations wanting to make their cash reserves work harder," according to a press release.

Portfolio manager Mike Sheridan is no longer with The Reserve. No further details were available.

Kevin Bannerton is now a Managing Director and deputy head of the Americas cash business at Deutsche Asset Management, distributing DWS Scudder money funds under MD and Head of Global Cash Joseph Sarbinowski. Bannerton previously was a product specialist for cash at BlackRock and sold liquidity products at Merrill Lynch.

Joe LaSpina is now a VP and relationship manager (NY area) for AIM Investment's Fund Management Company (FMC). AIM has also hired Drew Biegel as institutional client coordinator, responsible for institutional marketing efforts nationwide. Both LaSpina and Biegel were formerly with Dreyfus and previously with Alliance.

Matt Pedicino has been hired as a new Sales Associate at Morgan Stanley Investment Management. Pedicino will be covering the West, Midwest and Southwest regions under Fritz Curtis.

Kevin Thompson is leaving Edinburgh-based Standard Life Investments. He is believed to be heading for Fidelity Investments UK, though he has yet to arrive there.

Bob Arotsky has moved to Institutional Cash Distributors (ICD) as Director from his previous position as Vice President, Regional Sales Manager for Cash Management at AIM Investments.

Crane Data's Peter Crane will be roaming the halls at the Treasury Management Association of New England show on Wednesday and Friday, and the Investment Company Institute's General Membership Meeting on Thursday, in case you're attending!
